In a time where its very easy to feel that sales isn't working, that no one is buying, that everything is lost, that the economy is failing etc etc its especially important to think positive, to work even harder and to truly believe that new opportunities will come.
Have you heard of the abundance mindset?
Stephen Covey first introduced the abundance mentality in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. An abundance mentality is one where you truly believe that there are plenty of resources for everyone. By contrast, a scarcity mindset is one where you think the pie is only so big—so if someone else succeeds, that means you automatically lose. Having an abundance mentality creates happiness and removes stress. It helps you focus on the bigger picture especially in these difficult times.
Applying the abundance mindset means believing that your success in not controlled by outside forces.
Here are a few things you can do to work on having an abundance mindset in sales.
Surround yourself with abundance-minded people
As Tony Robbins says, “The quality of a person’s life is most often a direct reflection of the expectations of their peer group.” Ask yourself if you look up to the people that you surround yourself with – if not, you may need to search for other people that are living the life you aspire to.
Make an effort to create win-win situations
A scarcity mindset believes that if one person wins, another loses. Try to create win-win situations in your own life to combat this manner of thinking.
According to Oprah Winfrey, “If you look at what you have in life, you’ll always have more. If you look at what you don’t have in life, you’ll never have enough." At the end of each day to write down 5 things you are grateful for. Remember to include even the simplest things that you might overlook, like being able to stay at home with your family at this time.
Train your mind to recognise the possibilities
Abundance is your ability to see more in your life: more options, more choices, and more resources. When we focus on one particular thing very intently, other possibilities that are right in front of us can go completely unnoticed. The brain can only absorb so much, so if your belief is “I can’t do it” or “it’s impossible” then you will never be able to see what actually is possible.
People with positive, optimistic and future-oriented, abundance mindsets tend to take action. They tend to believe that their success is not controlled by outside forces and hence tend to be more successful.
